| February | Korea Model United Nations: 1st Session Inaugural conference. Co-hosts: Korea University, UNDP Secretary-General: Jong-min Choi (Division of International Studies, '05) KMUN 2008 is classified as a special event for several reasons. Firstly, KMUN 2008 was the inaugural conference. The 2008 conference was the starting point of Korea University¡¯s Model United Nations program. We were able to host a very successful conference with approximately 150 participants in 5 different committees. Secondly, KMUN 2008 was the 1st Korean MUN conference to have a ¡°real-time crisis¡± scenario. Such theme wasn¡¯t provided or attempted by any other MUN conferences within Korea, prior to KMUN 2008. Lastly, Korea University Division of International Studies (KUDIS) along with UNDP GEF YSLME co-hosted KMUN 2008. Such support from distinguishing institutes undoubtedly raised the quality of our conference. |
| July | KMUN Summer Seminar: 1st Session Inaugural session. Host: Korea International Student Society. Director: Jong-min Choi (Division of International Studies, '05) After the great success of KMUN 2008, we decided to host a summer seminar for high school students who wanted to continue their enthusiasm regarding global issues over the summer. The KMUN 2008 summer seminar was conducted through a strict application based system were we strictly limited the number of participation in order to fully control the high-quality of the debates. We again, continued with our innovative committees such as the ¡°Korean Peninsula 2010¡± where we simulated a future crisis scenario on the Korean Peninsula. We also had the special committee on ¡°US National Security Council V.S. Politburo 1961¡± which also stimulated very hot debate among the delegates. |
| February | Korea Model United Nations: 2nd Session Co-hosts: Korea University, UNDP, UNHCR Secretary-General: Yuna Kwon (Division of International Studies, '06) KMUN 2009 can also be classified as a unique conference. First off, we experienced around 250% growth in our participation. With over 400 participants, we were able to gather numerous new thoughts and ideas regarding various crucial global issues. Secondly, along with the previous partnership from KUDIS and UNDP GEF YSLME, the UNHCR also assisted KMUN 2009 with their co-partnership. With such influential institutions as our partners, KMUN 2009 could turn out to be nothing but a big success. Lastly, KMUN 2009 continued the history of innovation. We added various new committees such as the ¡°Historical Security Council 1978¡± and ¡°NATO¡± in order to spark some new, interesting debate. Such attempt was a big success and we are confident that KMUN 2010 will only be better than its very elite predecessors. |
| February | Korea Model United Nations: 3rd Session Co-hosts: Korea University, UNDP, UNHCR Secretary-General: Cheol, Soh (Psychology, ¡¯06) Following the two successful conferences that were held in 2008 and 2009, KMUN2010 succeeded its previous reputation of excellence. First of all, with accumulated experience of the secretariat, KMUN2010 stepped further in terms of general flow and quality of the conference. Secretariat¡¯s experiences from past KMUN events have provided guidelines in succeeding previous reputations. Secondly, well-trained student officers and enthusiastic delegates enhanced the quality of debate of KMUN2010. Through special training sessions, the KMUN student officers have acquired adept chairing skills and manners in order to raise the quality of debate. Lastly, KMUN2010 continued its spirit of innovation and transparent awarding system. Adding committees like ¡®ASEAN+3¡¯, we have successfully experimented new style of debating and issues. Also, transparent awarding system clearly showed spirit of fairness in KMUN. |
