ExperiencedGlobal Trade Commission I (Show/hide details)
Trade, the exchange of goods or services between two or more parties, is the driving force behind the global economic growth that spurred especially since the creation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995. The international community has generally agreed that free trade is the key to development of any nation. However, many nations are still adamant in keeping trade barriers to protect their domestic market. This committee will provide solutions to prevent protectionism by searching means to lower trade barriers such as tariff rate and quota restrictions. Also, the committee will discuss and debate on the benefits of regional trade within regional trading blocs such as the European Union (EU) and ASEAN. Delegates have to understand the pros and cons of regional trade agreements and provide ways to enlarge the trading blocs so that regional trade becomes more inclusive and encompass a larger range of regions.
Delegate Cap: 24
Topics:
A. Combating protectionism and concluding Doha Development Agenda (DDA) (non agricultural goods)
The Doha Development Agenda (DDA) is the most ambitious multilateral trade negotiation which started since November 2001 to fight against protectionism and reconcile developed and developing countries¡¯ views on trade. However, the DDA has many problems of conflicting views of the developed and developing countries that hinder it from making future progress. Therefore, discussions should focus on methods to reconcile the different perspectives and fight against protectionism in trade multilaterally (on non-agricultural goods).
B. Resolving the conflict over trade of agricultural goods
Out of the many issues discussed at the Doha Development Agenda (DDA), the most important and controversial issue is agriculture. Agriculture is a very sensitive sector that creates problems in the trading system such as government subsidy which distorts the global agricultural market. It is also the main reason of DDA¡¯s stalemate. Providing new ideas to add on to the discussion on agricultural goods is the objective of this agenda.

The committee of historical G20 is a special committee that will simulate situations that had occurred during the previous sessions of the G20 summits. Delegates will be assigned in positions of previous situations of the G20 meetings and they will be asked to perform as ambassadors of their nations at the time of the session. For example, if the situation is the last global financial crisis of 2008~2009, the committee will require all delegates to return to that period and act as leaders of the time to design solutions to get through the crisis and create plans to prevent crisis from happening in the near future. Several situations will be given, and the delegates will be judged on how well they represent their nations¡¯ stance of the era. This will require the participants to understand their nations¡¯ stance of the past and the present and incorporate it in today¡¯s international decision making process.

Topics
A. 2008 November 15th -Combating the financial crisis and stabilizing exchange rate
The purpose of this agenda is to investigate the cause of the financial crisis and to set realistic goals to overcome it. In the aftermath of the 2007 financial crisis, G20 members gathered to discuss measures, policies, and reformation to combat problems such as rising unemployment and fluctuating exchange rates. Just like the discussions that took place in Washington, we expect HG20 committee to come up with solutions that could be as fruitful as that of Washington's.
B. 2008 November 15th -Proliferation of multilateral trade, reduction of trade barriers
Multilateral trade and reduction of trade barriers are one of the main priorities of G20. In the Washington Summit meeting it was emphasized that although the global economy faces recession, protectionism should be not allowed. Thus, through this agenda the committee should discuss how to promote free trade in the midst of the financial crisis.

Climate Change& Energy I, II, III (Show/hide details)
Climate change is a fairly new but increasingly important element in global energy policy and economics. Many governments have realized that the source of the majority of today¡¯s energy, crude oil, is a limited resource that needs to be secured. Development is necessary, but the global community is strongly demanding for a sustainable condition of development rather than unconditional growth. The act of cutting down emission rate will cost governments a significant part of their economy and therefore the environment and the economy sectors will need to compromise to achieve a more ideal sustainable development. Governments are fervently trying to secure the limited source of energy which often sparks international conflicts and disputes. Therefore, this committee will also have to talk about the issue of energy security and necessary measures that should be taken to reach and maintain energy security in a diplomatic way.
Delegate Cap: 48 (Double Delegation)
Topics:
A. Post Kyoto&Copenhagen
The efforts of the international community to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat global warming have been quite unsuccessful. Especially, the conflict between developed nations and developing nations regarding the issue has not reached any agreement. Thus, in this G20 conference we look forward to having a high level talk that could come up with an agreement and a practical solution which can further develop that of Kyoto&Copenhagen.
B. Practical framework to promote transition to green energy
In order to ensure energy security and sustainable development, transition to green energy is necessary at this point. Building a green energy infrastructure and industry among the international community is more than needed. Therefore, issues regarding development of green technology, assisting green industry development, and devising a transition strategy are priorities of the agenda.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an international financial institution that promotes international financial cooperation, especially in maintaining exchange rate and balance of payment stability of its 186 member states. Its purpose is to reduce poverty through financial assistance. The international community has experienced a global scale financial crisis during 2008-2009 but was able to avoid the worst predictions made by economists and the world is now in a slow process of recovery. The international community has achieved a general consensus that a better and enhanced monetary management mechanism is necessary for the future. Functional reforms are necessary for existing financial institutions including the IMF. The committee will offer reform framework for IMF to strengthen the surveillance mechanism and help prevent possible future financial crisis.
Delegate Cap: 48 (Double Delegation)
Topics:
A. Reform of the International Monetary Fund
The latest global economic crisis of 2008~2009 has shown the necessity of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reform. The international community has agreed that several reform policies are needed to prevent another financial crisis from happening in the near future. Reforms should be made in diverse areas such as quota and voting shares, executive board selection process, and a global surveillance system.
B. Solving the problems of the exchange rate system
Many problems concerning today¡¯s exchange rate system that seemed to have worsened the effect of the recent global financial crisis. For example, the floating exchange rate, which can destabilize developing countries¡¯ markets, happens when a currency¡¯s value fluctuates according to the foreign exchange market. Delegates in this committee will have to devise measures that can solve future problems of the exchange rate system.

The World Bank (WB) is another international financial institution that provides legal loans to developing nations for the goal of reducing global imbalances and poverty. The World Bank is comprised of two institutions called the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA). Each of these institutions play differentiated roles in working for sustainable development. Similar to the IMF, the World Bank also is in need of reforms in several ways to become more adroit in promoting necessary abilities such as innovation, efficiency, and cooperation with other international entities. Therefore, the committee of World Bank will have to assess the past work of the institution and provide a post-crisis agenda and propose a global financial safety net as a surveillance mechanism to prevent future financial crisis.
Delegate Cap: 48 (Double Delegation)
Topics
A. Reform of the World Bank
The World Bank (WB) is anticipating multiple reforms to become more efficient and to gain legitimacy and international support. Similar to the IMF Financial Institution committee , this agenda will discuss about reforms within the World Bank in increasing the voting power to developing countries, and the executive board and appointing process.
B. Mechanism to tackle the problem of unemployment of post financial crisis
Out of the many negative results of the 2008~2009 financial crisis, unemployment is one of the most immediate problems to be solved since many lost their jobs due to the bad economy. In order for a society to function properly, unemployment has to be reduced to its minimum mostly with the help from the government. The second agenda of the Financial Institution (WB) committee is to therefore search mechanisms to overcome unemployment after the financial crisis.

The committee of global development will discuss on the issue of balanced development and growth of especially developing nations. The most important factor is to reduce and narrow the economic gap between the developed and developing nations. This group will therefore come up with possible solutions dealing with current matters at hand such as striving for a more balanced, equitable growth and further discuss the Official Development Assistance (ODA) proposed at the Millennium Summit of the UN as one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The ODA system needs to be better implemented in order to fully reach its original goal and purpose. Economic development is one of the key issues at the G20 meetings that should be discussed thoroughly to achieve a balanced growth on a global scale.
Delegate Cap: 48 (Double Delegation)
Topics
A. Effective aid donation policy coordination for developing countries
Poverty and underdevelopment have always been a problem to many countries of the world. Although there were numerous measures taken, such as the ODA (official development assistance) or the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals), it was extremely challenging to eradicate such matters. Thus, effective aid donation policies ought to be created that could differ from past global actions.
B. Setting a financial crisis response mechanism for low-income countries (long term development perspective)
The recent financial crisis had a huge impact on the global society. Even though the world is in the process of bailing out from recession, it is necessary to establish a financial crisis response mechanism to prevent future problems. Especially low-income countries that are more susceptible to such recessions need a system which can bail them out in case of emergency. G20 members are expected to devise a crisis response mechanism plan to achieve balanced growth.

International Press Corps (Show/hide details)
The International Press Corps is not a committee in the MUN sense. It provides participants a chance to play the role of the journalists in the lively international diplomatic stage. Participants will attend press conferences (given by the Secretariat, or possibly a delegate, or a committee) and circulate news articles throughout the conference. Participants will ask delegates for interviews, or sit in on a committee session to report on its progress. You will report in line with the reporting tendencies of your news agency. As with realistic journalism, the committee may decide to go into closed session and expel you: but that should not stop the resourceful journalist from getting the job done!
