Model G20 is a simulation of G20 conference (Group of Twenty Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors) including G20 member countries and related financial institution and NGOs. In Model G20, students take on roles as representatives from each G20 member states or other related organizations to discuss the global issues on the G20¡¯s agenda. Participants research, make speeches, write declarations, negotiate with other member states, and debate to investigate international issues and perform the parliamentary rules of procedure of G20.
The history of Model G20 is very short since G20 was only established in 1999. Also, the power and the importance of the organization were not as highly evaluated as it is now. However, after G20 summit meeting in 2008 and the global financial crisis, the influence of G20 has expanded greatly. With its growing importance in the international community, Model G20 has been created to give students an opportunity to contemplate and solve global issues at hand.
The goal of Model G20 is to educate participants about the workings G20, to enhance a participants¡¯ negotiating and public speaking skills and to broaden the participants¡¯ view and knowledge of the world. As an activity for internationally aware students, Model G20 will definitely provide participants with skills as a global leader.
